Okay, I had a dream last night, which might be of some interest. In my dream I was at Cape Canaveral for a space launch, and was in the control centre where all the technicians are at their computers, watching a big monitor screen. This was a very special NASA mission: the first naked boy in space. As I watched the countdown on the huge monitor I noticed that the boy wasn't inside the rocket, as one might expect, but was in fact standing on the platform, with a piece of string under his armpits and across his chest, the other end of which was tied round the booster of the rocket. He was a plump, unprepossessing naked boy of about 10, uncircumcised despite being American. As the countdown was completed, and the rocket rose majestically from its platform, the NASA camera got a good close-up shot of the boy's genitals as they whooshed past. The NASA commentator on the footage opined that this shot might prove "controversial" with the American public. The rocket was headed to Mars, with which it would rendezvous in a few months' time. A female reporter with a microphone and camera crew were now in the control centre, and the reporter was explaining to her viewers that some scientists had expressed doubts over whether a 10 year old boy could survive for several months in the vacuum of interplanetary space; but it didn't really matter anyway, because, behind NASA's noble rhetoric of doing this "for all mankind", the organisation was actually pursuing the national interest. By dumping the carcass of a plump naked boy on Mars, NASA was sending out a powerful demonstration to Non-Aligned Countries of the superiority of the American way of life over that of its chief geopolitical rivals. That's all I remember. Psychoanalytic interpretations (Freudian, Adlerian, Jungian, Kleinian, Zeus/Ganymede dialectic) would be most welcome. |
