But 12 is an age of consent that exists in some countries today, exists in recent memory in others (the Netherlands) and exists as an absolute age of consent with Romeo and Juliet laws in 3 US states (another ten states are 13+).

Unfortunately one of the biggest hurdles is that many people seem to think that the law creates morality, so when a 25 year old man gets with a 17 year old woman it's considering a travesty if the state they were in had an AoC of 18. Even outside of that it's "seriously creepy".
