Sorry for writing further, but just to complete the alternative strategy I have outlined, the point about opposing the modern state is not, in our lifetimes, to destroy it, which I don't think is possible, but because every small victory saps the confidence of those who want to further erode civil liberties, and delays the next wave of authoritarian legislation.

The point of this is twofold. Firstly, it means we can get through more of our lives with more freedom, spaces such as BC for example; and with more likelihood that, so long as we are careful, we can live our lives without being sent to prison – and all without sacrificing our integrity.

Secondly, if we are lucky, and if the forces that resist state authoritarianism in general prove sufficiently strong, we might even be able to keep open this window until the core aspects of the modern state collapse.

When this happens, it will be in a world utterly different from this one, technologically, economically, politically, socially, so that any change will come about as a result of forces that we cannot now even envisage, let alone plan for or bring about ourselves.

But we just might be able to avoid the worst outcomes for ourselves and our fellow heretics if all those who have an interest in keeping alive civil liberties (which, after all, are not just us heretics) are successful in preventing the very worst excesses of modern authoritarianism.

I believe that the increased authoritarianism of the state is not unconnected with capitalism and the deliberate destruction (such as under Thatcher) of communities of trust that were able to resist the state's encroachments. So, for me, this implies a more or less 'hard left' position.

There is a further point. The modern, increasingly authoritarian state, threatens not just us but the whole world. The more the space for dissent is closed off, the easier it will be for the current very destructive elites to lead their populations into the abyss of war. So our fate and that of mankind are intertwined. If we do not survive, then there is less chance that mankind will avoid catastrophe in this century.

As a sexual heretic I hope for the weakening of the modern, authoritarian state; but as a human being who desires the continued existence of mankind, as well as the beautiful ecosystems and living organisms of this perfect Earth, I also have an interest in pursuing the same strategy.
