While being able to vote provides only an illusion of political power (and if kids were given the vote they might well vote for more protection from pedophiles, not abolition of age of consent), it remains the case that exclusion from the franchise is a powerful symbol of the limits placed on youth agency in general. As was the case with women, being able to vote would not likely noticeably change the outcome of elections, but a campaign for a younger voting age would still tend to focus attention on youth rights issues in general and if successful probably lead (as it did for women) to greater participation/agency in many other areas, work and sex prominently among them.

(Eating, sleeping, working and fucking make up most of human life. A younger voting age might not change sleeping much. It could help some with youth hunger, an important issue, and would likely have a significant if indirect impact on kids' rights to work and fuck. IMHO.)
