When I think about what is so terrifying about the actions committed against the Gazan people now, is that it's simply an escalation of something which has been happening against Palestinians for decades. When the "war," the genocide of the Gazan people ends, what will happen after? Will the Palestinians be permitted to live in freedom and dignity? Or will they be forced to endure even longer the regime of apartheid and occupation? And if they are forced to endure it longer, then who is to say these military incursions that amount to genocide will never happen again? All wars are terrifying. Even the most justified revolutions are often frightening and filled with terror. But I must say this one frightens me uniquely, for the reasons I've stated, and I'm sure too because this is the first time my eyes have been so keenly exposed, in real-time and in great depth, to countless atrocities. |
