The story of T2 is as much about John as it is his mother. They both end up being put to the test in a big way, but Conner manages to assume his natural leadership abilities and really only encounters resistance from his mother, who must overcome her trauma from the events of the first film and the impending doomsday events that she has immense knowledge of before she herself becoming a heartless killing machine (metaphorically speaking, of course). Her character really resonated with me upon watching it as a parent and I never even really noticed her “you don’t know what it’s like to create something” speech until my recent viewing.

As for Short Round, I think of him as being the real hero of TEMPLE OF DOOM. In some ways he’s more mature than the other characters.
