I love a lot of these movie. I haven’t seen MOWGLI, FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR, SING STREET, HOPE AND GLORY, or DUMA yet but have wanted to.

Some of these he has seen already. THE KARATE KID 1 & 2 are 2 of his favorites and one of the few shows he and I actually ended up binging was COBRA KAI. He saw the remake before the original but ended up preferring the Macchio one, which was an indication to me that he could enjoy a lot of 80s movies.

NEVERENDING STORY and HOLES he actually watched earlier this year at his friend’s house and enjoyed. HOLES in particular he was quite smitten with. I actually haven’t seen it since I was about his age so that’d be fun to revisit at some point.

TRUE GRIT is one I’ve been wanting him to see but haven’t found the right time yet. Same with SON OF RAMBOW, CONCRETE KIDS, and MASTER AND COMMANDER. I’m fairly certain he’d love all of these. EMPIRE OF THE SUN and ROAD TO PERDITION were both movies that meant a tremendous amount to me when I was a child, so I’ll definitely show him those. Again, it just has to be when both he and I are ready.

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS he likes the books a lot. I’m not sure if he’s watched the movie. I should ask.

KUBO he loved.

THE MUMMY he loved but hasn’t watched the 2nd yet.

THE WITCHES he saw the remake of and enjoyed but he hasn’t seen the original yet.

WILD AMERICA is one he is interested in but we haven’t gotten around to quite yet.

Believe it or not he didn’t like either ET or JUMANJI which surprised me. I showed him those shortly after he started living with me though, so maybe he was just not in the mood. He didn’t like any of the characters in ET other than the alien. With JUMANJI he said it became too cartoony and thought the only cool parts were when the kid got sucked into the board game and when the other kid almost gets eaten by the plant. He also doesn’t like WIZARD OF OZ either, though he might like RETURN TO OZ since he’s way more into the real dark, mean stuff. He also has a tough time with musicals, though he may like BUGSY.

THE SANDLOT he watched in school a few months ago. He thought it was alright but I think he had a hard time paying attention to it. It’s hard to watch movies in an educational setting. I remember not enjoying many movies for that reason.

HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS I recall not enjoying as a kid, but there’s a good chance he’d like it more than I do. I’d be willing to rewatch it for him.

FERRIS BUELLER he has seen some scenes from but hasn’t expressed much interest in seeing yet. I think he’d like it but he seems a bit opposed to Matthew Broderick for some reason. When DAZED AND CONFUSED is definitely one I think he’d enjoy parts of. My main qualm is the first part of the movie with all the hazings and stuff. He has a really strong sense of righteousness and so those scenes would probably make him too angry to finish. SUPERBAD he’ll definitely get more out of as well in 2-3 years but he’d probably complain about the main characters being too mean and won’t understand their humor yet (he gets bent out of shape over friends calling each other names sometimes).

Thank you for all the recs!
