Of course suffrage came to serve a pre-existent feminism, and of course there is no equation between to the two. I mean only to say, in response to the question "What's wrong with women voting," that it enabled the progress of feminism, which is not good -- why not good? Because feminism, as an extension of the democratic idea, loses control of its own project, and capitulates to every economic and political interest in obscuring or even erasing sexual difference. And there are many such interests, most of them quite evil, and all of them in denial. When's the last time voting changed anything? Around the time women got the vote. |
