There's been a movement that's become especially pronounced in the past few years to view any efforts of inclusion as some insidious monster and you can definitely see that reflected on this board. It's amazing to me how much the people on here who feel so ostracized by society and angry at what they have done to us so easily repeat back all the horrible ideas of those people. Many on here seem to believe these ideas are something original they came up with.

I wish I knew all the reasons for this because the world needs an answer, but it seems to me that there are so many people in the world these days simply looking for someone to blame for their own pain. The easiest way to do this is to group people into what you would like to be a homogeneous group, assign to that group all of the evil, and then focus your hate on them. This is why there are people on here who are so often proposing groups that are responsible for all of our woes.

However, it's so much easier to hate a group of people than to hate a person. People are not homogeneous categories, completely good nor completely evil. We all have stories and reasons for the things we do and believe. Sometimes we make mistakes and do something wrong, other times we are just doing what we think is right because we've not listened to (intentionally or unintentionally) someone else's experience.

This is why I do my imperfect best to not view people as simple groups needing to be put in the friend or enemy category. It's also why I've advocated for more visibility from us as a group. I would love to see a campaign designed to share our stories to the outside world in a way that is relatable and demonstrates how our humanity is what we have in common with the rest of the world. We have the technology to do this anonymously and safely and it is far better than waiting in a cave hoping the army will just pass by. I feel we have spent too much time feeling defeated and concentrating on what we can't do instead of brainstorming ways to use whatever little power we have.

When you give someone a human story, instead of a faceless group, it is far harder to dismiss. This is why I don't want to be like the rest of the world. We are a unique group of people with an equally unique perspective. I don't want to just parrot all of the hate that is out there (the hate that THEY taught us!), I want to be better. I want to be the antithesis of the bad things that have been done to us, not the reflection of it.
