Thanks for your contribution. I don't think Mary Harrington is a misogynist. Neither am I, for that matter. I have no particularly deep feelings towards women (not being attracted to them in any way whatever), so I feel neither love nor hate, neither desire nor frustration nor anything else. I think genuine misogyny mainly arises from heterosexual men, precisely because they're tangled up with women emotionally and sexually. There are several women I quite like and admire. So I don't accept the charge of misogyny. The questions Harrington raises in her book concern the nature of "female empowerment" as it has been conceptualised by the liberal feminist movement and whether this has really worked for women. She argues that liberal feminism has in reality led to a sort of degrading sex war benefiting neither side. It's difficult to summarise all the point she makes, though. You should read her book. You might find it a surprise. Do you think feminists are our "potential allies"?
