I don't think kids should make poor choices. However, I don't think prohibiting them from making those choices works. It backfires. Horribly. Just like adults, kids need to have the freedom to make their own choices. It is inappropriate for the law to intervene when someone takes drugs, gambles, drives responsibly, has consensual sexual relations, doesn't go to school, etc. It's no different if that person is a child.

Also, many things, especially children's choices, are wrongfully judged as poor choices. These include children having consensual sexual relations with similiarly-aged children. Also, extremely poor kids working instead of going to school. So banning kids from poor choices can easily lead to good choices being banned too.

So banning kids from poor choices doesn't work, backfires, and restricts their freedom to make good choices. No thanks.
