Girls are different from boys. Duh.

But to conclude from that, as some of our posters do (see thread linked below), that MAP or youthlove activism is hopeless because it seeks to promote the sexual agency of both genders is not just to recognize difference, but to essentialize it.


If ( as you correctly state) boys are different from girls, then what are those differences if not essentials. Physics, chemistry and biology. Basic body shape has an effect on what men and women can or cant do, eg its more difficult for women to run due to having breasts.
Men have more testosterone, and are more prone to aggression and violence. The fact that there was no need for this in the island paradise does not mean that there were no differences, or that the differences were only socially constructed.

You appear to be saying that essentialism is incorrect. If so, what are these differences you talk of?

You appear to believe that everyone is a replaceable unit, who can be pulled out or slotted in anywhere.

Perhaps I have misunderstood how you are using essentialism? I dont believe, for example, in platos forms.
