Prisoners of essentialism

Is that what Rind is really saying, though? That the gender-based division of labor fostered by adverse conditions elicits homosocial institutions of mentorship that are necessarily pederastic rather than merely creating the opportunity for pederasty? While conservative BLs often cast man-boy mentorship and pederasty as equivalent, I would think that a fully realized sexual revolution would allow us to completely sever the traditional relationship between sexual activity and gender roles both for womb-bearers and for the purported heirs of "manhood." I don't think BL activism should go its own separate way from GL activism. Indeed, that unnecessarily essentializes the place of child sexuality. Essentialism is the real baggage. I think we should simply move forward on whatever fronts are available to us and use that as leverage in other areas. This is why I try to bring up the fact that boy-woman relations constitute the last culturally accepted bastion of the sexually empowered boy. I don't expect any male BLs to actually care about boy-woman relations in of themselves, but if a straight boy can be seen as "getting lucky" with a woman, then a gay boy should be able to be seen as "getting lucky" with a man. Or to take it a step further, a questioning boy should be able to be seen as "getting lucky" with either a man or woman regardless of what orientation the boy settles upon (though this would require the de-essentializing of sexual orientation). Additionally, another aspect of the sexual revolution is the abatement of womb-protection anxiety. In its place we now have "innocence-protection" whose origins are unique. It does not stem from the concerns of the womb-scarce premodern world but rather from the modern status of children as socio-economically dependent. Rather than weighing boys down with the baggage of womb-protection this puts boys and girls in the same boat making CL activism applicable to both boys and girls.
