Yes, I'm afraid you're right, and I confess I do give up hope of it without having an alternative solution. I wish I could see grounds for hope.

The nearest we could come to being able to hope that reason may ultimately prevail over each insane fad that arises is if we could foster a culture which is so supportive of freedom of speech that the voice of reason cannot at least be silenced, but our culture is going in the opposite direction, with governments etc. readier than ever to silence any dissent with popular lies.
