You are right that the culture war over trans is "inimical to making informed choices." I think my proposal would be helpful in that regard by promoting a discourse around puberty that goes beyond the trans issue.

And yes, our perceived bias would make us a poor choice for advocating this option. (This issue handicaps most of our potential avenues of advocacy, though, this one no more than others.)

We may have been through this before, but I am not grasping the insight behind "politics is downstream from culture." This seems to have originated with Andrew Breitbart. Are there readings that connect this to Tocqueville and Dewey?

(It reminds me a bit of "if you've got them by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow," which I always associated with Watergate figure Charles Colson, but the Interwebs seem to have decided it comes from Teddy Roosevelt.)
