Just an initial response to this superb post... This is a great piece of analysis and thanks for posting it. It's helped me to clarify my thoughts. I must think about it some more, but you're quite right that boys are not diminutive men and that this means that their boyish haecceity includes a feminine component. Also, in relation to the men who love them, the relation is not an 'equal' one, but an asymmetrical one, with the man having the more 'masculine' role. I like your remark that "A boy who has this experience gains an appreciation of what females experience when men desire them sexually." This is kind of what I was hinting at in my answer to Errant when I talked about an education in courtesy - including towards women. I like your last paragraph very much as well, and the last sentence. I think you're completely right. I have occassionally read about pederastic relations in which the boy penetrates the man. I think I've read one or two such accounts somewhere in Tony Duvert, for instance. I've always thought that there was something a bit strange about things being that way round. Not that I'm being moralistic - people can do whatever they like, so far as I'm concerned. But I still think it's a bit strange, and I think with your analysis we can see why.

It is perhaps easier for me to overlook the vital 'feminine' aspect of boys that you rightly highlight because, as it so happens, I prefer the more masculine type of boy. But this, of course, is just a personal kink, and I must be careful not to universalise it. A very long time ago, there was a discussion on the 'Heretic TOC' site in which someone coined the term 'panchronic homosexual' to describe a man who is attracted to all males from prepubescents to adults, but who has not the slightest shade of attraction to females of any age whatever. This is really me. I can see that boys' bodies are more like girls' bodies than like grown men's bodies, and yet I still find it impossible to feel the slightest erotic interest in girls' bodies, no matter how hard I try.

Ah, Blur.... I used to be so in love with Damon Albarn when he was young and pretty! Do you remember the spat he had with Brett Anderson of rival band Suede? The latter announced that he was "a bisexual man who's never had a homosexual experience", and Albarn ridiculed this statement, saying that even though he himself was heterosexual, at least (unlike Anderson) he'd had homosexual experiences and 'tasted' that side of things - or rather, he added, been tasted - implying that he'd had men suck him off! I don't want to be too anti-American, but it's the kind of war - "who can prove that they are the most homosexual" - which you can't imagine American bands having.
