Really trenchant analysis! Such a great discussion here all around.

... the way in which "movement conservatism" became so self-congratulatory over Reagan's success. It fell into the trap of simply repeating a formula that worked very well in 1980 but, as Trump has conclusively demonstrated, doesn't work any more. (A parallel could be drawn with the way the Democrats kept repeating the 1932/36 formula long past its sell date).

Of course Reagan almost got us into WW3 ... He really was the inflection point whereafter US politics' dominant tone shifted to made-for-TV hallucination as smokescreen for elite plunder and utterly reckless perpetual Bay-of-Pigs provocations. (see Wikipedia "1983_Soviet_nuclear_false_alarm_incident")

Needless to say, Hillary and Barack's TINA neoliberalism was another case of Democratic gum-chewing long after the savor was lost.

I love Sick Rose's pointing out (elsewhere on this thread) that John Michael Greer also agrees that whoever harnesses youthful male energies inherits the future. Greer's Druidism often feels like it's at root an absurd Mother Goddess fetish. (Don't get me wrong, the pantheon needs its Venuses and Virgin Mary's.) But Greer also is so astute and provocative on so many points, so it's fascinating to see he agrees on this one.

I remember a N.Y. Times op-ed (that I can't find despite searching -- help welcome!) from within the last 10 years that talked about boys' scholastic underachievement, and argued that boys' wasted talents (across at least the West), could they be mobilized, would turn the country that cracks that nut into a world-beating winner.

Of course the Davos elite is counting on gender-free, transhuman AI to outleverage messy gendered and time-structured human wetware in the firefights to come. They may be right in the end, but, as of this writing, traditionalists such as Russia, the Taliban, Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas are showing an advantage.

(Should China should be on this list? See the recent Apnews.com story "As China censors homegrown feminism, a feminist scholar from Japan is on its bestseller lists". This ideologue, Chizuko Ueno, urges women to forget about motherhood and BE FREE!, so it's kind of, um, a self-limiting program, another twitch of rigor-mortis in the demographic collapse of the advanced West and East. At least the Chinese mandarins grasp that.)

...

And here's a commentator on Zerohedge.com who resonates with Sick Rose's "best of times" musings, with all attendant worries about what this entails ... some selections follow:

QUOTE

Rarely has the world’s only superpower undergone a self-immolation of its multi-faceted role in the global order.

The Globalists have tried to resurrect their eminence following the Peak Globalist cluster-fuckery that was Covid. Yet, in the process, they’ve shattered their own image, while not realizing it. That revelation is still oncoming. Now freed from a need to uphold their aura of magnanimity, they’ll unleash their most insidious and aggressive attacks on the natural order.

This will be their final undoing, accompanied first by great suffering for those who are not part of their clique. There is no retreat for the Davos Crowd, they will only push forward, their evil will metastasize. Fortunately, it’s impossible to be a diabolical leader when the peasants laugh at your acronyms and meme your propaganda. The world simply will not congeal to their mold. The tussle to win at all costs will consume them and the nations that they represent. ...

Now, as I look into the future, I see anarchy. ...

Old orders are collapsing, pulled down by the weight of their hubris. New orders aren’t yet ready to take their place.
