Absolutely agree with you 100% - obviously my criticisms of BAP do not detract in any way from my very great admiration for Sick Rose's contributions. There are one or two criticisms of Bronze Age Mindset that I meant to include, but forgot, and the moment has probably vanished now. But just one last point. When he imagines his warriors he imagines people like Hernan Cortes, riding into battle to massacre some poor group of natives (probably the Chinese - he strongly hints that the destiny of the US is to invade China). Does BAP realise that the next great war won't be a matter of men on horseback or even men with machine guns? It will be a matter of men sitting in front of screens pushing buttons? And with each button pressed, thousands of miles away, some kids in playgrounds will be incinerated? Where is the valour and bravery in that? It's this detachment from reality that makes the volume frustrating. And as for going to the gym to prepare for war... I don't think it requires much muscle power to push a button. And how is all this glorification of war consistent with his supposed concern for nature and the planet? I just can't get any of this to make any sense. Sorry, I do understand that the book is a "phenomonen", but surely we should require some semblance of logical coherence, even from a phenomenon. |
