It was inevitable, I guess, but Manchester PhD student Karl Andersson is now "under investigation" by the University following a flurry of press interest in the publication of his paper on wanking to shota. Among the chorus of disapprobation is (of course) the NSPCC, some American academic at Oxford called Mara Keire (never heard of her), and the backbench Tory MP Neil O'Brien. Most dismaying, though, is the response of Manchester University, which has issued a statement saying: "The recent publication in Qualitative Research of the work of a student, now registered for a PhD, has raised significant concerns and complaints which we are taking very seriously. We are currently undertaking a detailed investigation into all aspects of their work, the processes around it and other questions raised. It is very important that we look at the issues in-depth." So much for the idea that a university should support and defend its community of scholars. [@nonymouse] [Guardster] [Proxify] [Anonymisierungsdienst] |
