Based on replies I may have overstated my case. I too enjoyed the caretaker part of it in many way.

But there is a part of me that wants to not have that be QUITE as much a part of my relationships with boys as it seems to always become.

"Have you considered that its not the children who change to look at you as a caretaker, but that its you that changed, you became jaded/cynical/old/tired/no fun/whatever. If all you are doing is sitting in your rocking chair watching repeats of 80s sitcoms then of course they are not going to find you interesting company."

Very well said. I should have worded it this way. Yes indeed boys do not change we do. I know very few boylovers above a certain age who can befriend boys as they once did even if given opportunities. When they do the boys look at them differently. Yes the boys have not changed but the boylovers cannot escape the WHEEL of time! Pun not intended!

When we/they try to act as we did when we were younger it does not always fit
