I very seldom start my own threads here, but a friend sent me a message that eventually got me to https://www.quora.com/How-old-was-Mary-mother-of-Jesus-when-she-gave-birth-to-Jesus I was just fascinated with how responders jumped through hoops to explain why Mary-- who most historians and theologians agree was a mid-teenager when she had Jesus-- wasn't a victim of child-sexual-abuse. Many of their arguments contradict each other. I want people here to experience how diverse, illogical, and contradictory can be the general social views about sex with minors. Without a blink, if our critics decide one argument isn't working in one situation, they will immediately switch (and with a straight face) to a completely contradictory stance. They know sex with a minor is wrong, and justifying it with logic just gets in the way of their sure knowledge. Trying to convince such people with logical and reasoned arguments is a fool's errand. And the more precarious their intellectual position is, the greater their outrage, vigilantism, and stigmatizing becomes. |
