In Bailey's case, this is an emphasis on biological rather than cultural factors, an emphasis I view as politically reactionary because of its tendency to foreclose pathways to liberating change. Do you know of any scientists proclaiming pedophilia merely cultural or social construction, while also having the courage to stand up for persecuted scientists (Rind et al) and pedophiles (Tom O'Carroll)? How about non-scientists? McPhail, who has emphasized here his willingness to modify his opinions in view of new evidence Judging from his refusual to provide evidence, and conditions for falsification, I'm not optimistic about McPhail. Since you judge Bailey harshly, have you read McPhail's papers? |
