Wow, you really did accomplish something significant with that food bank. I'm thankful to all the people who work hard behind the scenes to take care of the hungry flock. And that was fucked up how the group decided to exclude you in order to allow children to come work there. Of course yall would have been good to the children. This reminds me of when I first got out of prison, I applied for over 100 jobs in my area. I filled out all of those applications and got zero call backs. This was in the middle of the last recession. Tuff tuff time for a freshly minted rso to find a job. So I started doing odd jobs like helping people move and such. I was hoping to network and meet someone cool and find a job that way. I started volunteering at the local humane society. first I had simple jobs, such as dog walking and cleaning and feeding, but after a while I made friends with the cats and started brushing them and when the lady in charge of the cats department decided to leave, she recommended that they hire me. The boss agreed to hire me, but I had to fill out an application and I disclosed that I'm a felon rso. The boss called me on my cellphone to let me know that I am not allowed on humane society property, because kids come look at animals. So he was not only not hiring me, but also firing me from my volunteer job at the same time. That sucked. I'm glad you are on here Larry. If you ask me, your "job" is to just be yourself and just seeing you around makes me feel more included. Just knowing you exist makes me feel better about myself and better about humanity. |
