I didn't know so much could be said about shorts

You've really put some thought into it!

I was an 8-14 year old boy in the short-shorts, late 70's era and never thought anything sexual or flirtatious about it at all. It's just what the stores sold, and what everybody wore in the summer. I do remember in the early 80's as a young teen though, noticing my younger brother's friends when they'd be sitting on the ground with legs splayed, or knees pulled up to their chest, at certain angles you could get an eyeful. And if they weren't wearing underwear, well, you could see everything.

Then I remember in the (early-mid?) 90's when boxer shorts became popular as boy underwear, often they'd see them as same as shorts and would wear just boxers when playing outside or around the house. Those were about mid-thigh and had the same peek-a-boo effects.

And I see even today, some boys still aren't shy about wearing their short "boxer briefs" around the house or playing outside in the park, like the 9 year old below. Hopefully good boy fashion times are ahead.
