I once read a very high-class collection of old sci-fi short stories (dating from around 1925 to 1955), most all of them by authors who were very famous for one thing or another. What I found interesting, amidst all the many speculations on future technologies was that none of them had any inkling about cell phones, let alone smartphones. And only one got anything close to the internet (gay/bl writer EM Forster of all people). I think Arthur C. Clarke, another BL, was the first to see them coming. That was some time after '55. What is it with boy-lovers having such a clear view of things, eh? When I was 12, I imagined a place where boys and men could go, that would have small rooms with beds to lay on, and hallways where guys would walk around with no clothes or almost no clothes, find someone they thought was hot, and take them to a room to play. It was just a fantasy that I thought would be amazing. I didn't think for a million years anything like that could actually exist. Several years later, I realized that I was not alone in this dream, and in fact, many cities had places exactly like this, but with one very unfortunate difference: In the US, entry is strictly limited to those over 18. It was a bittersweet discovery. sg -=- |
