I just read the paper. By the way lots of people use the website sci-hub do easily download all those articles but it seems this is not allowed. The paper published July 1th 2020 has the title:

Age of Sexual Debut among Young Gay-identified Sexual Minority Men: The P18 Cohort Study

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00224499.2020.1783505?scroll=top&needAccess=true

This study is only/mainly about the AGE when homosexual minors have their sexual debut. This study does not at all explore the consequences of these sexual activities.

Bur sometimes the authors of the paper describe the results of other studies. For example they write:

„Several studies have found that earlier age of sexual debut among sexual minority men is associated with a range of sexual and health risk behaviors, including increased likelihood of condomless sex; tobacco, alcohol, and other substance use; psychological distress; suicidality; and earlier age of HIV diagnosis (Dewaele et al., 2017; Lombardi et al., 2008; Lowry et al., 2017; Nelson et al., 2016; Outlaw et al., 2011).“

Notice the word ASSOCIATED. If two variables like age of sexual debut and condomless sex are associated this does not necessarily mean there is a cause and effect relationship. Correlations proof no causes. Bruce Rind sometimes wrote that a tendence of a person to break rules (non-conformity) could lead to a) early first sex and b) mental health problems without any relationshop between a and b.

One thing I don´t understand: In the method section the authors write:

„Items regarding sexual history were posed with regard to mutual masturbation, oral sex performed, oral sex received, insertive anal sex, and receptive anal sex. For each of the behaviors, participants reported whether they had engaged in the behaviors, the age at which the behavior first occurred, whether that first occurrence was with a man or woman, and whether or not that first occurrence was consensual. Our analyses focused only on self-identified consensual behaviors which occurred over the age of 5 and with another man.“

A big part of these sexual debuts probably happend with underage peers and not with men (if men would be defined as persons 18 years and older). But it seems the study is about all sexual debuts and not about just sexual debuts with adults. It seems for some reasons the authors were not totally honest in this aspect. Maybe they wanted to avoid a discussion of that age/“abuse“/illegality aspect. But is not acceptable that scientists lie.
