Perennialism

What sort of perennialism are you thinking about, Kit? If you mean the popular "all religions are just local variants of the quest for the divine" variety that washed out of transcendentalism, then indeed its values are quite well matched by modern individualism and capitalism – a sort of spectral spirituality branded in different ways. But there is the stricter traditionalist perennialism of Schuon, Burckhardt, Lings, Guenon and the like, who are quite attuned to the radical differences between the traditions and generally assent only to their most orthodox practice, which disdains those modern values.

I have heard Hauerwas speak, but not read any; can you recommend a place to start?
