Not so bad a fate.

In some traditions (Tantric or Vajrayana Buddhism and some Christian sects as well), sex itself is regarded as a religious practice. I don't think we need to treat Plato as an extreme ascetic just because he stops short of that. That sex can tempt one away from the pursuit of truth and beauty, even in one's relationships with boys, is something to which I can personally attest.
