You tried to paint atheist as total assholes. I went to a non-religious funeral and it was beautiful. Atheists know that there is only one life for each of us. That means, we also treasure it much more. Instead of talking about imaginary angels and stuff that is unreal, we focused on his life and treasured memories. Each one tried to share a nice memory. Or gave us insight how good this man was. It was a celebration of his life. We remember him as the man who had lived.

Moreover, knowing that this life is all you have, you will make more use of it. Humanism in that regard means to make each others life better. That is what counts. And one does not get a reward after death. Make an imprint, get remember as the nice guy.

If someone asks you to blow yourself up and promised you some reward after death, you are being scammed. And heaven is not a nice idea, do you really think that every asshole is going to hell? And it is forever. Like Pharmakon said, Nirvana is good. And hell is bullshit. With all the intelligent people in hell, we would have broadband connection to hell by now.

And the comfort and joy you were talking about, it is unfounded, hollow. My comfort comes from the knowledge that people who know me, treasure nice memories.
