I think you're quite right. The registries are hallmarks of the essential dehumanization of classes of people, in a way even prison is not, because at least prison can be thought of as a simple punishment. More registries would only normalize the idea of dehumanization of humans through bureaucratic means, and as you point out, the murderers would suffer far less from it. If you were to object that murderer registries were inhumane, you would not be classed as being an apologist for murder – but that doesn't hold for sex offenses. |
