The disgustingly seminal study by Browne & Finkelhor (1986) defined CSA as "Any forced or coerced sexual behavior imposed on a child, and sexual activity between a child and much older person, whether or not obvious coercion is involved." That'd be like a homophobic researcher defining sexual abuse as "any forced or coerced sexual behavior imposed on a person, and homosexual contact, whether or not obvious coercion is involved." And of course, no distinction is made between the two in the final data analysis. But everybody ate it up and now many researchers blindly use this definition to this day. That's where that definition of 5+ years comes from. |
