""In cases of rape or pedophilia we do condemn" which implies that in ALL cases of pedophilia, they do condemn." First, it's wrong to truncate the quote. The entire quote is: "[We ask] to live in a world where nobody is pathologized on the basis of their desire as long as it really, truely hurts no one. In cases of rape or pedophilia we do condemn that and we must condemn that, so it's not every possible desire." What exactly is condemned there? THE HURT. I read that as supporting any desire that doesn't "really, truely hurt" anyone. I would HOPE you would agree with that. Now certainly I for one do not believe ALL pedophilia comes without negative consequences. I can tell you I'm on board when it comes to butt-fucking a boy who hasn't lost any of his baby teeth. That is a desire that society need to pathologize. Queer Furry provides a whole list of statements from Butler that contradict the simplistic interpretation you want to impose on her there. When someone says something seven times, and then on one other occasion says something that could be understood differently, you have no right to ignore those other seven occasions. You need to understand that quote in the context of her other quotes on the subject. And maybe more to the point: how does any of it pertain to the racism and sexism he's accusing Butler of supporting? |
