Maintaining the status quo because of a well-founded fear is, of course, what most people do throughout their lives.. it's fully understandable and even more so in lockstep as the risk and danger gets bigger, but it does nothing to change the world to make it a better place. Sometimes the right thing to do involves taking great risks and even destroying oneself and significant others that are loved too.. but that's always going to be a contentious topic.
