To be sure, there is quite a bit of schadenfreude in watching CHSC's (cement-headed-straight-clowns -- an old BC term for straight guys; their minds turn to cement on issues of sexuality because they've never had to think about it) squirming now from the same kinds of things that have dogged us for decades -- unsubstantiated accusations from years earlier used to ruin lives, prosecutorial and media circuses. But don't think that means things are going to improve -- reverse is more likely. The typical reaction of politicians to these kinds of accusations (particularly from those who might actually have something to hide and are thus more vulnerable) is to double down their anti-ped bonafides: calling for ever-longer prison sentences for peds, more funding for witch-hunts aimed at "protecting children." As George Wallace once put it after he lost an early campaign to a rabid segregationist, "I'm never going to be out-niggered again." Expect the kind of accusation that Trump Jr. has leveled against Biden to fuel more, not less, anti-ped hysteria. Every politician out there is going to start by calling for more and more ammunition to wage war on peds. Biden himself has been a rah-rah champion for the worst excesses of Title IX enforcement that have ruined the lives of hundreds -- thousands? -- of young American men, all the while showing a marked inability to keep his hands under control in the presence of female pulchritude. I am no admirer of Trump, but Trump has made himself invulnerable on the issue by refusing to be a hypocrite. The American political and media establishment still displays not a glimmer of understanding of what put Trump in the White House -- why he is quite likely to be re-elected, despite his disastrous handling of the worst crisis to hit the US since 1929. We should not be joining that establishment. The one thing we have going for us: the circumstances of our lives force us to think.
