I think his preoccupation with going toe-to-toe with whoever isn't surprising. His ethos seems to be about personal freedom, as in being free of unjustified limits, more than it is about any particular manifestation of that freedom, such as minor-attracted people having the same freedom to love and be loved that people generally enjoy. He may be helpful or useful to the cause of the liberation of minor attraction, but I don't think he's moved by the injustice of our position so much as by its being such a rich opportunity for him to provoke. He likes being a gadfly. Naturally he is outraged by the injustice of the limits being placed on his freedom of expression. (He's free to say whatever he wants, just denied access to the outlets where he could most easily be heard. In other words, he can't get published.) Amos is a remarkably mature and thoughtful young man, of course, but we shouldn't forget he is only 19 or 20 years old, still an age when boys are concerned with issues like respect and honor and dignity. I think there may be some of that developmental angst in his current actions. Not much to do but wait it out and keep encouraging him to be his best. |
