There isn't a lot special about either the film or the book it's based on, but they are both ok. Of more interest to me is the fact that for the movie one of the gay men is a former NHL hockey player and the Toronto Maple Leafs allowed them to use the team name and logo. This was even before Brian Burke became the team President. (One of Burke's sons was gay, Burke participated in gay pride parades, and another of Burke's sons started the "You Can Play" organization which speaks out about homophobia in sports.) The story is really about a gay couple who get by because they are not "flamboyant" about their gayness so don't rub people the wrong way. Then when Scot shows up, he is such a queen that this all changes. The boy ends up teaching the men about being true to who you are and not feeling embarrassed or ashamed. |
