It doesn't seem uncommon for young children to experience intense feelings and emotions for older teens. This was certainly the case in my childhood and it certainly seems to be the case much of the time. Many children experience shyness and bashfulness around teens and adults, and I think it's fair to say that this may be appliable to the majority.
