I like how Simon speaks about this, but I also think beauty, cute and sexy map pretty well onto the emotionally/physically/sexually triumvirate. I think we could say of the latter, as Simon does of the former, that emotion is something above. It's as if the physical and sexual are coming up from the ground. Simon says, "Cute and sexy offer beauty protection from the ugly." But emotion does not have an opposite in the way ugly is the opposite of beauty. Or should emotion then be better called love? Which might offer protection from hatred -- interestingly, in terms of the analogy, maybe not protection of the hated from hatred, as we might usually think, but protection of the hater from the consequences of his own hatred. This would fit well, I think, with other insights Simon has. hugzu ;-p |
