When a new product first comes out, it has to fight against all the competitors in the marketplace that people already know and love. A new technology usually has to be at least twice as good (and in the case of a communication technology, at least ten times as good) before people will adopt it.

Look at the Nintendo Entertainment System; it was REALLY hard for them to convince stores to put it on their shelves, because they were skeptical whether it would sell. The fact that it was able to make it, despite all that pushback, was a testament to how good of a system it was. People are still playing it today.

But guess what happens after they succeed and become popular to the point where they can just live off their name. Then they start implementing dumb changes, because they can. The N64 games offered you a bunch of polyhedrons, but not necessarily the same compelling stories or quality of gameplay.

It's like the film franchises that have to work really hard to make the first in the series good so that people will watch it, but then they can just slack off on the sequels. The director/producer starts to indulge whims that he couldn't have gotten away with earlier, before he had complete creative control, and it becomes a bloated product. Plinkett pointed this out in his review of The Phantom Menace. Lucas just started cramming these films full of too much dumb shit.

Well, humans are the same way. We had to survive in a really tough environment, and patriarchy made it easier. That was the original system, Relations Between the Sexes 1.0. But then, after we were more established, we started coming up with dumb stuff like feminism that actually was lamer than what we had originally.

The only reason we still have feminism right now is that we still have this large population that was built up during the days of patriarchy. But that won't last forever, so at some point we either need to find another system that produces that same kind of fecundity, or go back to patriarchy.
