Calling out anti-intellectualism

Posted by Lysander on 2017-July-11 19:06:43, Tuesday

I notice that when people shut down debates about pedophilia, we can cry "censorship" but then they immediately refer us to xkcd 1357. Well, why not call them out for anti-intellectualism instead? They don't believe that by engaging in a debate where we examine the arguments using the rules of logic and evidence, we will get at truth that will leave the audience smarter, resulting in better behavior rather than worse behavior. They think that we have to shut down this intellectual process in order to protect the public.
