I agree, I went wrong with a 15 yo who saw how much I enjoyed it (usual disclaimer? long ago, thoroughly investigated? I forget the rule to cite) and said "do me now" which really does not admit of two interpretations but I shoulda told him he wuznt ready, he wuznt, it hurt, and that wuz da end of it. But I don't think dat makes it a bad thing. The transition from wanting it to being able to do it is a physical task that requires work, like hitting a baseball or a tennis backhand. That u cant do it at first does not mean u cant learn to do it and wont enjoy it when u do.
