I think that's the kind of book I would prefer to read, one that doesn't depict a relationship as being a good or bad thing, but just a thing that occurs that is mysterious and exciting and somewhat nonsensical. It's an interesting challenge to try to come up with a book tailor-made to such a particular viewpoint. The nearest I can think of that you might like is Lunch with Elizabeth David by Roger Williams (1999), which I reviewed at the link below.
