Such term shall be not less than 5 years.What that's saying is that if you get convicted of a sex offense, they can give you a lifetime term of supervised release. When you're found to be in violation of the conditions of supervised release, they can then sentence you to a prison term for the violation, and give you a new lifetime term of supervised release to serve after you get out. So your sentence never ends, unless/until the court decides to exercise its power to "terminate a term of supervised release and discharge the defendant released at any time after the expiration of one year of supervised release, pursuant to the provisions of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure relating to the modification of probation, if it is satisfied that such action is warranted by the conduct of the defendant released and the interest of justice".
