No, it's not dead, just limping along on the long pathway to (hopeful) recovery. We've been beaten into submission and hiding these past thirty or so odd years, so you can't really expect a vibrant community scene when we're more or less struggling defiantly to keep our collective heads above water. The main problem is that we have no human face, I think, to present to the outside world—unless you count yourself among Ethan Edwards and Nick Devon, but even then, Todd "I look precisely like what most people imagine a pedophile would look like" Nickerson isn't really winning over too many hearts, I imagine. Or else it's a slow process, really. Child-love isn't so much a movement anymore as it is a concise statement which relays our object of attraction: minors. It hasn't really deserved the label of being a "movement" since the 80s, when PIE was ejected from the mainstream gay liberation movement and subsequently withered away into obscurity. No one who isn't already a convicted felon (and therefore already have a wrecked reputation) or mad is willing to risk ruining their career and family life for the astonishingly small chance that we actually may get our shot at redemption. Not nowadays at least; and that's actually a huge problem. If we don't mobilize more non-offending MAPs sooner rather than later in our rhetoric, then we risk never seeing the light of day. Now that there's no opposing narrative being made available to the public, so-called "child advocate" groups and malignant mental health professionals like Cantor and the ever enjoyable Dr. Finkelhor, who is the Devil incarnate, reign supreme and unchallenged. If we can't manage to cajole or stir the normal, relatively well adjusted pedophile into action then we risk never getting out of this rut we've found ourselves in. If we can't snap people out of this haze they have via-a-vis the stereotypical pedophile we may never escape our ill-set fate. And it should go without saying, Tod and VP corning the media circuit and setting up this "I'm sorry I'm a pedo" narrative won't do the vast majority of us any favors in the long run. We'll just go from being shadowy monsters who corrupt children to poor losers who're destined to spend eternity moping and sobbing about. VP's activism may get us in the doorway, but we'd be wise to capitalize on the opportunity to steal the spot light when the chance is given. Anyway, until we speak up and speak out, people will continue to believe we're short, left-handed morons with a 10 to 12 point IQ drop from the median. They'll continue to believe we're sick men in dire need of psychiatric treatment, and they continue to believe that treating us like utter trash, until we act and finally put an end to this godforsaken nightmare we currently reside in, is acceptable behavior.
