The Wind Through the Keyhole is loosely connected to The Dark Tower septology, but it can be read independently.

Synopsis: Roland Deschain and his ka tet are forced to find shelter from a freezing storm called the Starkblast. They do so in the town hall of an abandoned village. During the storm, Roland tells two stories to his group. One story is a recounting of an adventure Roland embarked upon as a young man. The other is a fairy tale he learned at his mother's knee as a small child. The latter is about a little boy who goes on his own epic (and very dangerous) adventure.

The character development in this story renders the boy so tangible that I actually became rather enamored with him.
