Sodom and Gomorrah

As you may know, the name sodomy coming from the biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrha results from a misinterpretation of this story. It was initially a warning tale against the persecution of strangers. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of their intolerance and hateful behavior towards people they felt different from them, and the brutal, inhumane way they treated them.

As usual, the story message was turned upside down, and became a reason to persecute people who differed from the normative social rules, especially homosexuals / boylovers.

The story also contains a plea from Abraham to spare Sodom and Gomorrah from God's anger and destruction. How could God kill the righteous with the wicked? And here comes a long bargain, with God finally agreeing to spare the cities if he can find ten righteous people. Yet in the end... everyone perished under the fire from heaven...

This myth is haunting me. We now enter an era where humans can more and more easily get what was considered godly powers until very recently. Yet the heart of men is no better than it was some millennia ago. People are still sadistic, bestial haters of anyone not meeting their criteria of normality. They do fit the biblical description of the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah. So I do wonder, will there be enough righteous men to save the Earth from a human "godly" furor? Or will someone, more intelligent and determined than the average, decide that the whole adventure with all its suffering and cruelty should be put to an end, and get it done? Eliminating the whole humanity doesn't seem out of reach of a simple mortal. It may not even require technologies and means only available to the very few. How many people are disgusted enough by the mankind to caress such an idea of massive destruction? How many are tormented and rejected by society, and got their capacity for forgiveness used up? As a BL, I feel like I could very easily be that kind of man.

If I had in front of me a button which I could destroy the world with, would I push it? Well, I can't say for sure. If boys I love didn't exist, I would for sure be more than tempted to do so. Why continue with all this endless horror of life?
