But then we'd have to apply the same treatment to the second element too!

'Piedo-fill' would have a nicely Spooneristic quality. I agree with other posters that the British pronunciation sounds especially noxious and sneering. It always makes me think of that Bobby Davro routine about getting thrown out of the swimming pool because his hands were covering the 's' on his Speedos, and I resent being made to think about Bobby Davro.
