They say, "Well, let's just get pedophiles labeled as mentally ill! Then there will be no moral judgment against us, since we can't help being sick." Once you've been labeled as sick, then people still feel like they can fuck you over (in fact, they feel they HAVE to fuck you over, because as a mentally ill person, who knows what you might do next), but because everyone is now agreed that you're sick, they can feel magnanimous and enlightened, because they're saying, "We should pity him, as we fuck him over. It's not his fault that he's this way that gives us no choice but to fuck him over. It's just cruel fate and an accident of nature that it had to be this way!" They can then take off the judge's robe, or the priest's collar, and don the white coat of a scientist or doctor, saying, "This is my expert opinion" rather than "This is what some political hacks in the legislature came up with" or "This is what was written on scrolls thousands of years ago." At that point, the terminology they come up with to justify fucking you over sounds so cutting edge and hypermodern! And just to be sure it stays that way, they revamp the DSM every 10 years to update the terminology, so that you're now no longer "neurotic" but whatever the new buzzword of the day is. So as they ostracize you from their social groups, discredit every idea you ever had, and probably take away your kids too, they can take comfort that this is all supported by science and medicine, which say that you have a disease and they are just quarantining you. It's not cruel to lock up a smallpox patient where he can't harm anyone, after all! It's just an unfortunate necessity. |
