I am glad that you did not take the sacraments. It is clear from your description that the worship of the child as the asexual pure being is, in all but name, a religion.
In fact, I'm beginning to think that it could be a compensatory replacement for religion as such, since religion has been so much discredited nowadays by atheists. The soul needs something to believe in, and the religious dogma is all too apparent in your very lucid description.
