Depressed about American society...

I feel so scared about the modern age right now. Technology is moving so fast and the world and society just can't keep up with any of it. Children are mostly existing in a technological landscape and there's such a huge lack of guidance. There don't seem to be all that many boundaries. Boundaries are important, and most of the parents I know are so naive. They always will themselves into believing that children live in a world that's similar to theirs and that they just need to apply the right methods of parental guidance and their kids will end up fine.

Its such a different world nowadays. Heck, I grew up in the 90s and the modern age is so different. People do not know their children at all. That's the conclusion that I continue to come to, time and time again. Parents continue to be out-of-touch with their lingo, with the ways they connect to people. Many children only truly know one another through the Internet. Parents can fool themselves into thinking that their kids are having these wonderful friendships and that their friends parents are looking out for them and that their minds are worth taking seriously. They couldn't be further from the truth.

I know that it sounds like I'm mostly bitching. Maybe I've just gotten sick of seeing children being put into ambiguous situation after ambiguous situation. I don't know. Whatever. It's probably not worth talking about any further. Right now, though, it just breaks my heart to see how people can care so little about future generations right now. I mean, just today, this ten year old boy who's been staying at my house was just telling me about seeing this girl in his class doing a live video, talking about sex and showing her room off. Several other classmates, as well as other friends of hers, were in that chat, and who really knows how things like this could go.

I'm not a paranoid person by nature. I don't believe that the majority of people swimming around the Internet are sexual predators, and I actually think that things like this can lead to a lot of positive creativity. My problem comes from the lack of knowledge from the parents. I understand that it's difficult. I understand that it's impossible to monitor these things. Why can't parents, though, try to at least understand this world a little big more before judging or making decisions that may not necessarily be positive. All I see are parents treating this world as a major disease.

I get it. There's a lot wrong with this society. But, to me, anyone who reaches the age of thirty and still hasn't figured out that life sucks are obviously doing something incorrectly.
